How to make a salve (with pictures)

Making a salve is a very simple process, yet it allows you to extract all the benefits from your medicinal plants.

First you need to macerate your plant in bio olive oil for 40 days and nights at a sunny spot. Sieve this oil and bottle.

Making the Salve

For making the salve you will need:

  • Your macerated plant oil (I am using Comfrey leave oil)
  • Bees' wax (I am using Jose's, the local bee keeper; you may want to get yours from a herbalist's shop)
  • A glass jar o aluminium tin

Please note that if you are using reusable glass jars you must boil them for 5 minutes to sanitize them. If they are new you may want ot clean them with alcohol.

  1. Place your oil in the tin or glass jar in a double-boiler (bain-marie) at a very low heat (do not go beyond 40ºC as this will damage your oil).
  2. Add 10% bees' wax (I am using 100gr tins so 10gr bees' wax) and let it melt in the oil untill it has diluted completely.
  3. Once diluted remove it from heat and allow to cool so the mix will solidify. You may want to cover it with a cotton cloth.
  4. Once solidified your salve is ready to use.

Place salve in double-boiler and add beeswax
