Yin is the other side of power, the counterpoint to the power of Yang, and as such it is a different kind of power. As anything dark and difficult to be seen into, it has been greatly misunderstood, remaining unknown for many, feared by most and worshipped by those brave enough to venture into her mysterious land. Being passive, her action is unseen, concealed. Her influence and effect is revealed overtime so hers is not the woe of instant gratification. It refers to what is-not. Her shapes are cavities, holes, hollows and all the vacant spaces that reveal that something is missing.
Self-knowledge becomes available to those who under her mandate have become empty and yielding to receive the beauty and peace inherent to what is. Thus a hollow life is a life full of beauty, peace, appreciation and enchantment, and for this one has to leave the hollowness vacant rather than feeling compelled to fill it up.
The essence of Yin can be found in the cold, dark and fluid places of this Earth. Her wisdom can be acquainted in the reigns of the Forest, the Mountain and the Sea. This book proposes an inspiring journey out in Nature so that we mirror Yin within in the practice of Yoga, Meditation and Pranayama. The Book of Yin is beautifully illustrated with evocative and poetic photographs as well as studio pictures of all the Yin Yoga poses, full-page comparative prints of the complete Traditional Chinese Medicine Meridian Network and reveals how our overall health and wellbeing is positively affected by purposely working with the body, the mind and the breath.
